In the US, it is estimated 634 million dog toys end up in U.S. landfills, which is equivalent to 40,500 tons of largely plastic waste. That is a lot of waste! We couldn’t find Aussie status around waste from dog toys, but I am sure it’s similar in kind, just a bit smaller due to the population.

We started investigating alternatives. Compostable dog wipes sounded perfect on paper - lots of other brands sell them, but when we dug into the research, we discovered most don't compost in any reasonable timeframe. The material and weave mean they can sit in commercial composting facilities without breaking down properly. That wasn't eco-friendly to our standards. That was greenwashing with extra steps.

The same pattern appeared everywhere we looked. Cleaning products in single-use plastic bottles. Beds with foam that can't be recycled. Accessories designed to be replaced rather than repaired.
